12th October - Challenge Day 5
After a stormy night, which left us all a little down-spirited, the team were happy to be back on the road with the sun shining early this morning.
Some very stormy weather over Stuart's Well captured by our Media Team
We set off for Kulgera Control Stop and arrived just before the first teams got back on the road. There are now large gaps between most of the teams, which does make it easier to travel on the roads and co-ordinate overtakes. However, it does mean that we sometimes go for hours without seeing any other teams...or in fact anyone at all!
Our next stop was at Coober Pedy, where we bumped into AUSRT and scheduled some repair work for the evening to try to get their car back on the road tomorrow. We stopped off at John's Pizza Restaurant for some of the best pizza we have shared this trip and were very well fuelled for our next stint.
Back on the road, we tried to find new ways to entertain ourselves as I Spy has become a bit old...given that there are only so many real and abstract things you can spot in the outback. We started a game of "Sweet and Sour" with other drivers on the road and tried to guess what the roadsigns were on the other side of the road...we hope that after a good sleep tonight we will have some better suggestions for entertainment tomorrow.
We met up with AUSRT at Glendambo, where we are camped up. There are a few other teams here which is good for solidarity and hopefully all the cars will be able to get out on the road tomorrow morning.
Excitement after arriving in Glendambo
While we were travelling south today, the top 5 teams all arrived in Adelaide. Congratulations to them all for beating the Outback and being a wonderful showcase of the power of solar. We will make a bee-line for Adelaide first thing in the morning, hopefully to catch the 6th team onwards as they arrive in Adelaide around midday.
